This course introduces an intensive process-driven writing program, which teaches the student to vary sentence structure and to combine sentences into coherent paragraphs. This course also initiates a four-year vocabulary program designed for the student who may pursue educational opportunities beyond high school. The reading of selected short stories, poems, and essays, as well as novels and full-length plays, one of which is Shakespearean, is required. An oral presentation is required.

Required Materials:
  • Vocabulary Workshop Level D (available via UMHS for $10)
  • One notebook for Writer’s Notebook (must be able to submit notebook periodically)

-Major assignments suffer a 10 point deduction for each day late

Absentees:
-All tests and quizzes must be made-up within three days of student’s return to school.
-All assignments due on day of absence are due on day of return.
-It is the responsibility of the absentee to schedule a time to make-up test and quizzes and to show teacher
missed work for credit.
-It is the responsibility of the absentee to inquire about missed assignments and class work.

-Be to class on time
-Come in, sit down and prepare for work
-Raise your hand and wait to be called upon before you speak, during discussions or work time
-Remain on task for entire period
-Follow directions the first time
-Be respectful to teacher and classmates
-Remain attentive
-No put downs
